and sometimes we must wrestle them down, stare them in the eyes, inhale their very essence. we must bring them to life. my friend mandy writes:
“let them free. let them live unmolested by the rules, the religious duty, the expectations.”
~ mandy steward, tomorrow's dreams today
i'd love to hear your dreams for the year! maybe we can help each other stay encouraged and strong. what are you doing to make your dreams come true?

Dreams: facing my parents without fear. making it through a whole day without pain. seeing my chicks make it from egg to adulthood. seeing my new mama goat give birth. travel to Vanuatu. go back to Europe and meet up with dear friends. read a little bit every day. make brioche. sell one photograph to someone who will love it. sew something I love. paint my bookshelf bright red. design a creative space where I can sew, paint, draw, read, be still. smile peacefully to myself when someone attempts to crush me. dance in the moonlight with my man and not get eaten alive by mosquitoes.
ReplyDeleteI love your resolutions. I'm not a resolutions type of person, either, so I disguised them as a birthday list. I just know we're going to do wonderful things, this year. :)
ReplyDeleteThis year i'm dreaming of getting my first tattoo (ouch!) discovering what I want to do with this education i'm going to college for, and to explore photography and bread baking! I don't like resolutions and decided to do a 'love list' instead for 2012 (http://shelbyisrad.wordpress.com/2011/12/30/2012-love-list/ )
ReplyDeleteI love dreams, instead of resolutions. I dream of so much, little things, and big things, secret things and obvious things. This is going to be a crazy and incredible year.
ReplyDeletei love the dream list idea! :) perfect. i feel the same thing about "resolutions". they never work, so i just feel guilty about it. (i love your handwriting, btw.) you would look amazing in dreadlocks. keep in mind that they're outrageously difficult to get out unless you want to chop all your hair off. :P i was trying to help a friend of my at school take out some of her dreads, and it was an agonizing process. haha.
ReplyDeletehmm...some of my dreams for 2012... i really want to play my violin more. especially Bach solo pieces, the ones that speak to my soul. i'd like to get a tattoo. somewhere. something. i'm waiting for inspiration and the guts. ;) i'd like to compile a small(ish) volume of poetry and submit at least half a dozen poems (and hopefully get published) to my school's journal thingy. those are the main things. oh, and i'd also like to memorize some more scripture, some Jesus stories.
anyway. that's me. :) thanks for sharing your list! i always love these glimpses into your heart.
I'm dreaming of a nose ring for my birthday, and dyeing my hair purple (and red again). Nothing overly...profound, but they make me feel free...
ReplyDeletedreams: become a mama. write full time. write another book. release my eBook.
ReplyDeleteLove you dreams... so glad you are dreaming of dreadlocks. What a journey awaits! Yeah more dreadlock sisters! Everything on your list is in my heart too... so love this. oh, and you have a beautiful handwriting... envy! ;-) Stupid question... but how do i subscribe to your blog? I seem to miss your posts... can't find a place to enter my email?
ReplyDeletecarolyn, i added a place to enter your email on my right sidebar near the top. i hope it works! thank you for wanting to read my humble little dream-words, and for all of your lovely comments!
ReplyDeleteelora...dreaming those for you, with you. <3
this is so much more inspiring than resolutions! my dreams would be... being honest about who i am and what i believe before my parents, getting my nose pierced, saying "i love you" and making out with that man, getting a job and my own appartment, buying a guitar and start writing songs again, painting a lot. i'm looking forward to looking back on this year and see where it got me!
ReplyDeletewow...those are some beautifully brave dreams! are you going to mark your milestones along the way?
